The Atomic Bomb Dome is a building which survived the very first atomic bomb used in human warfare at the end of WWII.
Beneath this stone lantern, you can still see the stone masonry of the old riverwall. In the past, everything downstream from here was the ocean.
The riverside open-air cafes are privately owned permanent cafes operating under preferential measures for river/riverside usage.
The Moto-machi riverwall was built for the enjoyment of the citizens; it was awarded the Civil Engineering Design Special Prize in 2003.
